I am greatly disappointed by the Apple’s special event today. None of the products that came out to be what I expected, or would use.

The over-rated video iPod. What’s the point? It’s not like I am going to watch video when I am driving, or working, or walking, or reading. All that it succeeds is to waste more battery.

iMac with iSight built-in. At first it sounds cool, but then again, I haven’t even use my webcam since I got my mac. PhotoBooth sounds cool but when was the last time you take a picture of yourself with a webcam and post it online?

Remote Control. This may be cool, but it doesn’t work with Airport Express, which means I won’t be able to control what I am listening to in the living room.

iTunes 6… GIVE ME A BREAK!! I felt that iTunes 5 was release prematurally, as it should be called 4.95 or something, and in less than a couple of months iTunes 6 is out? For what? Video downloading feature?

This is what I want. Make an Airport Express with video streaming feature so I can hook my TV to that thing, so I can watch movies that I can download with iTunes.

The shockingly good mac software company Panic has released the next-generation Mac OS X ftp client two days ago. Transmit 3 offers several new features such as a built-in text editor, batch downloading, and the 100% Mac OSX experience without sacraficing any of the good stuff that made Transmit 2 the Apple Design Award receipient.

Already won 2005 MacWorld Expo Best of Show award, Transmit 3 has created a lot of attention even before its release date. It is listed as the second Hot Picks list from Mac OS X website. The multi-protocol of FTP/SFTP/TSL/SSL made Transmit 3 robust, with column view and DockSend, it’s almost fun to ftp.

To experience the fun of FTP, go download Transmit 3 from Panic.

The tour was rather exciting, especially since we have already heard so much about it – The 7-men team that develops some of the best Mac software out there (Transmit, Unison, and CandyBar). Unlike most working places, Panic is a fun place to work according to Les, “I have to put on my headphone so I can get work done, otherwise I’ll just keep laughing because my coworkers are too funny,” said Les. Panic started out with two people developing Audion at their own apartment, but since then the workforce has more than tripled (to seven people) and has international relations (with Japan).

The headquarter is located in Pearl District of Portland, with overpriced condos and classy furnature stores surrounding it, Panic is a rarity in its location. The clean hallway and uber tall ceiling elevator, it all leads to the firm that makes power apps for Mac. One picture means a thousand words, I have 34,000 words then.

So, has the Apple already fixed this “mother of all thermal challenges” three days after they announced it? Or is the news source simply lying? Only time will tell, but it’s definitely something worth looking forward to.

After watching the keynote speech from Macworld Expo, I cannot believe all the great products that has been introduced. When Steve Jobs announced the price for iPod Shuffle, he said, “We are serious.” I believe they are very serious on getting into the PC market now.

First demostration was Spotlight, which is a search engine for Mac OS X. Unlike google desktop search engine and others, Spotlight is build right in the core. What does it mean? More efficiency searching!!

Other new/updated programs were also introduced, iLife and iWork. All that I can say is that I am speechless. How well they all work together, and took usability engineering into the next level.

The biggest news is probably Mac Mini, and iPod Shuffle. Surprisingly, both products are listed at very low price!

I have an iPod, I have a car with a cassette deck, so I have one of those audio tape adapters that plays my iPod with the cassette deck. Everything about it is good, except one thing: controlling iPod.

In the first day of Macworld Expo this year, Giffin Technology have announced SmartDeck. And this, I have to say, will be the best accessory for iPod. It looks like a normal audio tape adapter, except it several useful features that will allow iPod navigation with your car stereo.

Features include:

Control iPod navigation through the car stereo

Intelligent level control for optimal cassette player input levels

Features highest-quality cassete tape head for crystal clear quality

Sets optimal volume on the iPod for best audio quality

Seamless integration between iPod and car stereo

SmartDeck will be released during second quarter of this year.

Product Link
