Ever since I started working full time, I started to feel the burden (of my wallet) of eating out everyday. Not willing to make lunch at home (due to lack of time (due to lack of sleep)), there were only two options available: 1. eating out, and/or 2. eating cup noodles. However, recently I have discovered the 3rd option: scavenging.
One nice advantage (or disadvantage) of working at a big company is the beaucracy it takes to keep it running. Such system requires lots of meeting (almost daily) so people can socialize legitamally. For meetings to be formal (or to make it seem so) is to provide lunch for participants. Since most meetings last for a while day, lunch ususally starts at 12 and ends at 1. So scavenging starts at 1:15 (+- 3 minutes) when the left over food gets brought out from the conference room to the kitchen.
Scavenging itself will last no more than 3 minutes. First thing we do is scouting, we must pretend we are going to the kitchen to get coffee or clean mugs. If the food is out, we would phone each other and inform fellow vultures. The rewards can be great most of the time. Most commonly we would score Local Boyz, American Dream’s Pizza, on the downtimes we get China Blues.
Another bonus side of it since scavenging does not require leaving office, so we can bring it back to the cubicle and continue working through lunch hours, and leave work an hour early (or take half of Friday off).
So, I was thinking the other day, “out of all the people I know, who would I most like to see start their own podcast?”
Well Joe, I think you should. Really.
why is that?
I just think it would be cool to hear your thoughts in addition to reading them.
I hope your boss doesn’t read this blog.
