Firefox who?

So I was working a couple of days ago at ch2m, and a colleague walked by my cubicle and saw my wallpaper on the computer - Firefox, and asked me, “Oh yeah, I see that a lot now on news, what exactly is it?” It was then; I realized how important it is to educate people about Firefox, because no matter how awesome it is, if nobody knows about it, it will not be popular.

About four months ago (I believe Firefox 0.7 was out at the time), I wore my Firefox t-shirt to work, little did I know I was like a lamb who was about to be eaten by the M$ lovers in my group. “What are you wearing, Joe?”, “Firefox? That’s bound to die in 3 months”, “IE is so much better”, “IE is so much safer”, “blah blah blah, bleh”, “bleh bleh, blah blah, bleh”…. So I told them how small Firefox is, how safe it is, how bad IE handles CSS, and how slow it is. But no one would listen to me, probably taken too much pride in a Microsoft poodle. Then just this last month, I started seeing people wear other Firefox shirt around my company, and seeing some people actually trying them out - it was a great feeling.

So what exactly is Firefox? It’s a ultra lightweight web browser (4.8 MB for PC/ 8.6MB for mac) that has built-in pop-up blocker. It also supports tab browsing (multiple websites for one browser window open), a very very smart search (Google search is built in the toolbar), a very simple text search (search-on-the-fly, basically you just start typing the word you are looking for), more privacy and security, and the most important/cool feature: able to install extensions. With the ability to install extension, the browser may have more features than you will ever dreamed of, while keeping the size relatively small.

Enough said, go download it at Get Firefox.com, give it a try, I assure you it’s the best thing you’ll ever used on the computer.
