Memories of summer ‘03

As summer ‘03 coming to an end, and my senior year starting within 6 days, I look back on the things I have done, and acomplished in these past three and half months.

For the first 8 weeks of summer I took CS 372 and CS 361. Both classes were difficult and challenging, but reward was great – never have to take it again. During the first 4 weeks I have also worked at Hovland lab, and continued to get pressured from my family for getting an internship.

While checking my outlook mails, there was an internship opportunity sent to everyone in the EECS mailing list, after carefully reviewing the qualifications, I have decided to apply for this Sophomore job. Interview was at 8 in the morning, I wore a suite with a tie, which turned out to be clashing to everyone. But later on they did mention the suite-tie was good for the interview. 3 PM on the interview day, Rob Dibble called me and said they are offering the job to me. Due to the politics between school offices, and miscommunication between the school and the company, I didn’t start working until two weeks after I was hired.

Not long after working at CH2M HILL, my brother Oscar and cousin Stephen arrived in Oregon, pursuing higher education in a foreign land. May God give them wisdom and strength to be successful in school.

Same time, in the virtual world of Joe, the Forkers Dell server has been taking up most of the bandwidth in my apartment, and the forkers have agreed on moving the server to Tim’s house. Ever since then, the connection has been a lot faster, but forkers.org has been less stable for most part.

A couple of major events that cannot be left out in this article are Emily’s wedding, and Jamie’s little baby girl meeting the world. Both events have been pleasant, and best wishes to all of them.

I have been back to Hood River for four times, and brought Sammy back to meet my family. And of course, they’ll liked Sammy very much, for that she is friendly, smart, and not shy. My uncle even made some comments that I pray are prophetic.

After summer school ended, I was able to work at CH2M HILL every morning from 8 to 12, then have the rest of the day free. Sammy and I went swimming every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while Tuesday and Thursday were tennis nights.

As the new school year approaching, Sammy’s departure date for Canada is also sneaking up on us. Sometimes I have a hard time letting her go, but soon realizes that we just don’t want to be apart. Although now I have come to think of this as a chance for Sammy to be more independent, and it will be good for both of us. I just pray that the Lord’s will will be done, that my plan is also God’s plan, and that Sammy and I can be together.
